JUST weeks after the launch of the Where Next Building Appeal, which is supported by the Redditch Advertiser, public donations have poured in to the tune of more than £2,000.

After Christmas, there will be numerous events to take part in to raise cash and organisers hope there will be something for everyone.

For people who fancy doing something a little adventurous, appeal co-ordinators have come up with a breathtaking challenge.

A spokesman said: "Imagine standing at the edge of a doorway in an aircraft at several thousand feet - the noise of the engines and wind ringing in your ears. Imagine the excitement of freefalling, followed by the peace and quiet of the parachute ride.

"And finally, imagine the exhilaration you'll feel when you touch down in the centre of the drop zone having completed your first parachute jump.

"Parachuting is within your grasp and by deciding to have a go, you can support Where Next, which helps and trains local people with learning difficulties to achieve their potential."

There are two types of parachute jump to try. The first is a static line solo jump from 3,000 ft. Those taking part will receive a day's training.

Or there is a 10,000 ft tandem jump where the fundraiser will be harnessed to a professional and after a short training session, take to the skies.

People can jump for free providing they raise a minimum of £280 or £350, depending on choice of jump

The spokesman said: "There aren't many exciting things you can do for free so if tempted, give Where Next a call on 69955 for an information pack. ''

Jumps take place from the spring at a venue in the Midlands.
