WITH a number one single firmly under their belt, folk-soul acoustic duo Nizlopi made musical history in Worcester with a gig at the city's Marr's Bar.

The Leamington Spa-based duo landed at the top of the charts on Sunday evening after sales of their debut single JCB Song outstripped tunes from Robbie Williams and Westlife.

Only 24 hours later they were gracing the stage at the Pierpoint Street venue infront of a sell-out audience of 250 people, infront of regional television and radio crews.

The duo - vocalist, guitarist and percussionist Luke Concannon and double bassist, human beat box and guitarist John Parker - were due to play the venue earlier this month but had to cancel due to an appearance on Top of The Pops.

They are no strangers to the Marr's Bar, having played it several times before over the past three years - including a support slot with The Levellers - and describing it as a home from home.

And with support from sunladfromcov - aka Declan Bennett - the biggest cheers on Monday night were reserved for none other than the chart-conquering JCB Song played mid-set.

Marr's Bar manager Brian Marr said for the past five weeks every other call he had received was from people asking for tickets and he could have sold three times the amount.

He said: "It was absolutely fantastic and another page in the Marr's Bar's history ."
