Evesham College 4,
Sutton Coldfield College 1
EVESHAM had home advantage in the second round of the British Colleges Cup when they were hoping to avenge a 5-1 defeat the last time the two sides have met three years ago.
The Davies Road side went into the game in confident mood but they made a slow start and conceded a sloppy goal from a set-piece.
That served as a wake-up call and Shaun Stanley fired at the goal only for the goalkeeper to fumble the shot and Stanley was left with an easy tap-in.
Chances were now being created left, right and centre but a strong defensive display kept them out.
It would take good passing and movement by Evesham to find the next goal and they did just that in the 23rd minute when Darryl Ballard pounced on a loose back pass and passed the ball back for Stanley to shoot into an open net.
The home side applied more pressure and, after good work in the middle of the park by James Muddyman and Will Gating, Stanley scored his side's third goal.
The second half proved to be more of a test as Sutton took the game to the home side and the Evesham defence came under pressure.
Fortunately, good performances from Mark Bellamy and Winston Revell kept the opposition at bay, while keeper Darren Knurek produced a fine save.
Evesham's clincher came when a quick counter attack put Ballard through on goal and, with the goalkeeper bearing down on him, he expertly curled the ball around him into the top corner.
