Chelmsley Town 0 Droitwich Spa 2
A MAKESHIFT Droitwich side overcame a host of injuries and absence to get the better of Chelmsley in the Midland Combination Division Two on Saturday.
Spa closed the gap between themselves and Chelmsley to two points and stretched their unbeaten run to three matches.
Even more remarkable was the fact that Spa were without ten first team regulars on Saturday morning, forcing manager Tom Goss to throw in a lot of players from Spa's reserves.
He said: "I have to thank the reserve manager (Richard Goode) for all his help.
"It was a bit of a nightmare, but the team did really well.
"We restricted a high scoring side to a handful of chances."
Spa were missing a host of regulars including Matt and Andy Jenkins, Andy Pheasant and Mark Burrows. To make matters worse captain Steven Morgan pulled out with an injury in the morning.
Resources were so tight that 15-year-old Jimmy McDevitt and Matt Morton, recovering from a long-term injury, were brought in.
Chris Hartshorne opened the scoring from close range just before half time. Morton then hooked the ball into the back of the net in the second half to make sure of victory.
"It was a great performance considering the team", said Goss."
