Evesham Utd Ladies 5, Droitwich Spa 2

EVESHAM recorded a third successive win last Sunday when they overcame a determined visiting side that could perhaps consider themselves unlucky to come away from the game with nothing.

Droitwich started brightly and spurned two clear cut chances before United settled into their passing game and, from their first real attack, took the lead.

Leading scorer Sam Perry received the ball 20 yards from goal and sent a shot over the goalkeeper and into the roof of the net.

Amy Summer's first time strike sailed just wide before the hosts increased their lead on the half-hour. Kayleigh Hateley's sweetly struck corner found Stephanie Clements and her superbly struck shot flew into the net for her first goal for the club.

Four minutes before the break Droitwich deservedly pulled a goal back. Their joy was shortlived, however, as United regained their two-goal advantage deep into stoppage time when Becky Handy's perfectly weighted ball allowed Perry to sweep a shot into the net.

Two early second half substitutions by Spa seemed to unsettle United and they reduced the deficit in the 63rd minute when Hill again netted.

Only a headed intervention by Laura Westwood and a fine Upton save kept the home side's lead intact as Droitwich stepped up ther pressure.

Evesham weathered the onslaught, however, and conjured a goal out of nothing two minutes from time as Hateley pulled the trigger from 30 yards to send a fine shot past a startled Lane and finally settle the nerves.

With the game in the fourth minute of time added on, Evesham scored their fifth when Summers scrambled the ball home after her initial shot had been well saved.
