GOLFER Bob Corneby scored a hole-in-one at Bewdley Pines' 18th hole and then watched his playing partner Tony Yates follow him in.

The duo, who were playing in the club's senior monthly medal, managed the feat on the 198-yard par-three hole.

And Corneby, from Kidderminster, had even more to cheer as he took home the main prize in the medal as well.

He said: "It's remarkable that two players holed in one on the same hole. If it had been matchplay I would have been a bit sick.

"We were looking into the sun and we knew the tee shots were close but we couldn't be sure they had gone in. But we were brave enough to walk up to the flag and have a look."

The 64-year-old, who had a handicap of 17 before the start of the medal and has had one previous ace, took a five-wood.

He added: "It's an extraordinary feat. To see two in successive shots -- I don't think I've ever seen anything like that."

Tradition demands that anyone who gets a hole-in-one at Bewdley Pines buys a bottle of scotch for the clubhouse and Corneby and Yates duly obliged, leaving a bottle each for competitors in a club Stableford event.
