TEENAGER Robert Hall will hope to follow in the footsteps of Michael Schumacher and Nigel Mansell when he takes the plunge as a full-time racer in the 2006 British Formula Ford Cham-pionship.

The 16-year-old from Bromyard will be competing at some of the country's top circuits, including Silverstone, Brands Hatch and Donnington Park.

Hall has been karting since the age of eight but has started testing cars in Landow, Wales this year. His interest in motorsport stems from helping out at his parents' business, Bromyard Tyres.

"I've always liked racing and Formula One," said Hall. "My dad has had a lot to do with racing and when I was eight he asked me if I would like to race in karts. I said I wouldn't mind giving it a go and it has taken off from there.

"My mates at school know what I do. I don't tend to talk about it but when I do they are quite interested."

At the age of 10, Hall set the fastest lap at a major national meeting and has progressed to Formula Junior TKM.

In 2003 he finished second in the club championships at Whilton Mill Circuit. Last year he was third in the National Junior Biland Championship.

His performances prompted Formula Ford manufacturer Swift to offer him a testing contract for the remainder of the year to develop the car he will be racing in 2006.

Schumacher and Mansell both launched their careers in the Formula Ford Championship, as did Ayrton Senna, Damon Hill and Jenson Button.
