A KIDDERMINSTER catering manager found himself mixing with a host of stars at a celebrity party in London.

Steve Williams runs the Smokey Jacks catering company, based in Blount Terrace, Kidderminster, which was asked to provide the food at the BBC wrap-up party for the Strictly Come Dancing Christmas special.

The show's celebrity participants and presenters had been filming for the programme, which aired on Christmas Eve and caterers from Smokey Jacks, which specialises in barbecue food, served the stars with a pig roast and a curried turkey, parsnip, watercress and honey stir-fry.

Mr Williams also got to meet the show's winner, Darren Gough, and Colin Jackson, who finished in second place, as well as Rachel Hunter and Evander Holyfield, who starred in the American version of the programme - Dancing with the Stars.

The 34-year-old said: "It was a really good night, I really enjoyed it. There were so many famous people there. Everybody was so nice. We were right next to the studio where they do Top Of The Pops. The best person was Tess Daley. She looked an absolute picture. Colin Jackson was ever so nice."

He added: "They had a band and a DJ - it was a really big party. There were about 350 people there. Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daley made a speech and cut a cake. They had to borrow my knife so I couldn't cut the pig for a half an hour because they had the knife on stage."

It is not the first time the chef has cooked for celebrities as he has worked at the Rosette New Hall Hotel in Sutton Coldfield, where he cooked for big names including Pavarotti, Cher, Tina Turner and Michael Jackson.

As well as local events and weddings, the company, which has a staff of five, has also catered for companies including IKEA, T Mobile and Barcardi.

During the summer, Smokey Jacks also provided the food for 1,400 people at a Coca-Cola staff event in Leicester and bands including the Scissor Sisters backstage at the V Festival in Staffordshire.
