STUDENTS from Evesham and Pershore are among people with learning disabilities who have been presented with certificates by the police.

West Mercia Police hosted a People in Partnership course, in tandem with a Worcestershire charity, to highlight the issue of bullying for people with learning disabilities.

Andrew Money, from Evesham, was among 18 people presented with certificates by West Mercia chief constable Paul West.

The course, funded by the SpeakEasy NOW charity, taught students how to deal with hate crime, a problem for almost nine out of ten people with learning disabilities.

Sylvia Meyrick, SpeakEasy NOW co-ordinator, is hopeful the course can be repeated next year if funding can be secured.

"The funding came from the Learning Disabilities Development Fund, which is from the Government," she said.

"It comes through primary care trusts and is administered by social services.

"We hope the fund is available next year for us to put together another bid," she said.
