PEGASUS Juniors were unable to contain title contenders Bishops Cleeve who won 3-1 in the Hellenic League Premier Division.

The Hereford hosts matched the visitors for effort and determination but their inability to convert half-chances cost them greatly.

Pegasus opened the scoring in the fourth minute but the visitors levelled on the half-hour.

And Cleeve sealed a scrappy game with two more goals early in the second period.

Pegasus started at a high tempo and it came as little surprise when Ben Price's long-range volley surprised experienced goalkeeper John Skeen to find the top left-hand.

Seven minutes later, Skeen made a tremendous reflex save from Paul Brown's header.

Although Cleeve went close when Jamie Cuss cleared Matty Collins' shot off the line, they levelled on 26 minutes through James Vercesi's header.

With half-time approaching, Price hit another goal-bound volley but Skeen pulled off a fingertip save.

Two goals in nine minutes both scored by Vercesi to complete a hat-trick of headers from corners sealed the game for the visitors.

Brown crashed a Laurence Helme flag-kick against the bar as Pegasus fought on.

Meanwhile, Archdales '73 defeated bottom-of-the-table Kenilworth 2-1 to keep their good run of form going in an entertaining game at Claines Lane.

Kenilworth had the best of the opening half-hour in the Midland Combination Division One clash and Dales had 'keeper Mark Faulkner to thank after a few fine saves from Matthew Hoy.

Dales had chances themselves but Jason Beck was denied by Simon Large.

In the second-half, Kenilworth made the most of a defensive error for Hoy to put the visitors in front with a calm finish.

Dales then raised the tempo with Sam Green excellent on the wing and his pinpoint cross found Darren Tafft who buried a super header. Tafft earned the three points with a blistering left-foot strike.

Meanwhile, Pershore Town lost 3-1 at home to Feckenham in the Premier Division.

Barnt Green Spartak kept in touch with the title race, winning 3-0 at Alveston.
