A teenager found guilty of raping a 29-year-old woman has been released on bail from Worcester Crown Court to await sentence.

But Judge John Cavell ordered that the 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of legal reasons, must wear an electronic tag, observe a 5pm to 9am curfew and not enter Evesham town centre.

He warned the youth, who broke down in tears at the verdict, to expect custody but ordered a report which could affect the length of sentence.

He also has to register as a sex offender.

The jury returned unanimous guilty verdicts on charges of rape, assault by penetration and false imprisonment.

Prosecutor Walter Bealby alleged that the woman who suffered from learning problems, had been attacked when she was staying with a single mother in Evesham on July 31.

She had been bullied by the youth who used a piece of wood to imprison her in a toilet where she was held down and raped on the floor.

She claimed the youth threatened to slit her throat if she called for help.

The defendant, who was allowed to sit with his mother in the body of the court instead of the dock, maintained that she was lying.

She had not told him to stop when he started making advances and she had told him that she liked him.

The youth was said to have seven reprimands for minor offences of theft or attempted theft but no convictions of a sexual nature.
