TO round off an outstanding 12 months for Kidderminster's Samurai Judo Club, Rachel Moon is now their fourth girl this year to become a British champion. Her twin sister Sally took bronze at the same event.

Two months ago, Emily Watson and Kelly Edwards both won gold medals at the British Junior National Championships for players aged 12 to 17. Kate Walker had taken gold earlier in the year at the British Schools Championships.

Now it was the turn of the younger players, those aged 10 and 11, to have their national championships.

It was the first time the 10-year-old Moon twins could enter a national event, having reached the minimum age limit.

The inseparable sisters reached the final stages along with a familiar opponent, a girl from London's extremely strong Willesden club, who defeated Sally in the semi-final.

Rachel, meanwhile, won her semi-final with a superb counter throw and overcame her sister's victor with a superb maximum points throw to clinch the British junior crown.

Coach Andrew Haffner said: "These two girls have worked marvellously this year. They train together and there is superb co-operation between them.

"They listen to everything you tell them and then go away and work on it. They enjoy working hard and motivate each other."
