A NOVICE painter is hoping her artwork will raise money for Worcester's homeless people.

Elaine Blomfield's work was considered so good it was chosen for a recent exhibition at the University of Worcester.

Now she is hoping someone will auction her favourite painting, a contemporary image of a bull in fields, or buy it, to generate funds for Maggs Day Centre. She was inspired to sell the art when she read about the Worcester News' Give Them Shelter appeal, which raised £10,000 for a night scheme run by the Maggs-based charity.

The shelter, which homes, feeds and gives rough sleepers a change of clothes, operates for 10 weeks from January to March.

Worcester News readers raised enough money for more than three of those weeks. Mrs Blomfield, of Greathouse Road, St John's, said: "I think the Worcester News appeal was for such a good cause and I would like to do my bit for Maggs.

"I hope someone out there will buy the painting or will put it up for auction for me. I have enjoyed it, and I hope someone else will do now."
