A TEAM from QinetiQn Malvern beat teams from Europe and America to make the top ten in the World Team Challenge, an adventure race in Florida.

The international event, organised by Challenger World, pits corporate teams from some of the world's biggest companies against each other in a gruelling race that includes running, cycling, canoeing, construction tasks and code breaking.

The construction stage of the contest, which was held in Crystal River, saw the QinetiQ team coming in first by a large margin.

Other stages saw the team orienteering and cycling through Florida state forests, problem solving, scoring runs on a baseball pitch and canoeing spring-fed rivers, always remembering to keep an eye out for alligators.

Team captain Phil Kent said: "We trained hard and were pleased to come in the top ten. Next time we'd like to do even better."

The Florida race was one of a global series that included qualifying races in Britain, Europe and the US.

The team members , Phil Kent, Will Garrett, Jon Price, Dan Clarke and Simon Vickers were sponsored by QinetiQ to take part after qualifying for the event by winning the Cisco City Challenge, a similar adventure race held in Britain in Spring last year.

Team members are grateful to supporters and sponsors who helped them raise more than £2,500 for Challenger World's chosen charity, Dreamflight. This UK registered charity sends seriously and terminally ill children on holidays of a lifetime to Florida.

The World Team Challenge will be shown on Channel 4 at 7.30am tomorrow (Saturday).
