FORMER Chase pupil Tracy Moseley, 26, has ended the year ranked number one in the world for downhill mountain bike racing.

Tracy has had a manic 12 months of events and several wins meant that the spot at world number one was guaranteed.

She has a string of titles to her name, including six world cup wins. The highlight was winning the final round of the world cup in Fort William.

She said: "There were well over 10,000 fans screaming at all the riders, and I think extra loudly at the British ones.

"It was yet again an amazing experience to be part of such an event."

Being ranked number one in the world is not enough for Tracy, though.

Her ambition for next year is to win the World Cup Series, which she narrowly missed out on this year.

She also wants to win the World Championships, in which this year she came in sixth.

"A very disappointing result when I know I have the ability to be up there on my day," she said.

"It certainly taught me that I really need to work on my concentration in the future, especially at big events when everything is different."

Given she only recently came back from injury, the future looks very bright indeed.

Despite having international sponsors, a local team is responsible for getting her back into world class shape. Malvern physio Jenny Smith, sports masseur Martin Newhill and trainer Brian Philpotts, from the Splash, all contributed to her global success.

Biking is still a minority sport in Britain, especially for women, but it is definitely on the rise.

Britain's ladies' team is ranked first in the world at the moment and the men's team second, quite an achievement for a country with so few mountains.
