A SENSING device developed by QinetiQ in Malvern will be used in a wind farm project in Scotland.
The ZephIR system can measure wind speed and direction remotely, using a beam of light.
It will be used at the Beatrice experimental wind farm, 14 miles off the coast of Scotland.
Two five-megawatt wind turbines will be installed and the ZephIR will be used to measure the airflow around them.
This will give engineers information about the best place to site wind farms and the performance of the turbines.
Before being taken to the Scottish site, ZephIR will take part in trials at a site in western Germany and on a North Sea platform off the German coast.
