MALVERN'S Peter Doran has retired after a career spanning over 40 years with the MoD.

Colleagues travelled from the USA, Germany and France to attend Mr Doran's farewell 'do' at the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory in Malvern.

Mr Doran initially worked on datalinks for airborne platforms, and then helped to develop the RAF Tornado reconnaissance system.

He is renowned in the world of air reconnaissance and has led the UK contribution to many international programmes in the field.

At the party, he was presented with a painting of a Canberra reconnaissance aircraft by Paul James, the information management department manager.

Mr Doran will not have time on his hands in retirement, as he will continue as chairman of Malvern Rugby Club, and will finally get round to cataloguing his extensive collection of jazz music. He also plans to spend more time with his wife Ann, a former councillor for Trinity ward.
