A PROPERTY in Worcester that was for years a dilapidated eyesore has new occupants after undergoing a major revamp costing more than £50,000.

The house in Stanley Road, off Wyld's Lane, had fallen into disrepair and blighted the neighbourhood.

The only ones who would live there were a large number of pigeons that had nested in the roof, thanks to a big hole.

Last year, the city council used a compulsory purchase order, forcing the previous owner to sell.

The order was the last resort as the council had tried to get him to do up the property but this had not taken place.

The three-bedroom house was then transferred to Worcester-based housing association Nexus Housing, which undertook the major renovation of the property inside and out.

Along with the roof repairs, a complete overhaul of the electrics and heating was carried out and new windows and doors were installed.

Now new tenant Emma Suessmuth, who lives there with her two children, said she is delighted with how the house has been done up.

She said: "The finished property looks absolutely fabulous and my family and I are thrilled to be moving in at this time of year."

Kathryn Jones, project officer at the city council said: "We're delighted that the house can now be lived in again and Nexus has done a terrific job in bringing the building up to scratch.

"It was in a terrible state before, both structurally and aesthetically, but now it's virtually as new."
