A PROUD dad from Abbots Salford will be taking part in the Flora London Marathon later this year to help raise money for a baby care unit.

Derek Sigston, orig-inally from Birmingham, will be donning his running gear on April 23 as he sets out to run 26.2 miles in aid of the BLISS baby care unit which cares for premature babies.

Mr Sigston said: "I've always wanted to run the London Marathon but something always got in the way. This year I've got time off work and I'm running for the charity that has helped my daughter."

The 45-year-old logistics worker decided to take up the challenge after his own daughter, Georgia May, was cared for by nurses at the BLISS premature baby unit based in London.

Georgia May, now aged nine, made a full recovery after she was born three months premature and weighing two pounds.

BLISS is a charity that was established 25 years ago by a group of concerned parents and has developed into a leading national charity working in providing care for premature babies.
