KIDDERMINSTER'S Samurai Judo Club are looking forward to more success in 2006 after completing a tremendous year.

The club won four British titles at junior level which was the best tally for any local club.

Emily Watson, Rachel Moon and Kelly Edwards all took gold at the British Junior National Championships.

While Kate Walker took silver at that event, she did win the British Schools Championships to set the record straight.

It was also a good year on the veterans front for Samurai with Paul Jones taking silver at the European Masters Championships.

Ian Mills claimed silver at the British Masters and Sue Cosnett bronze at the World Masters in Vienna.

Worcestershire also did well, finishing first in the teams competition between all the counties in the Midlands in April.

There was also a third place in the Midlands Inter-Counties Individuals in December.

The county squad met regularly during the year and the new 'Kids help Kids' scheme saw international players like Walker helping coach newer and less experienced players.

The next county session is on February 21 and the next Kids Help Kids session is on March 20.

Anyone interested can call county coach Andrew Haffner on 07761-122977 or 01886-821087 for details.

Meanwhile, Walker just edged out Edwards for top individual spot and also top national and international medallist.

Walker became the first Worcestershire player to represent Great Britain at the European Cadet Championships, the highest junior level.

Edwards' domination of British judo was awesome, including golds at the British junior nationals, British Junior Open, Heart Of England, Midlands Open, North-West Open, Scottish Open as well as the Rouen International in France.

She even made the senior elite team with a place at the British senior trials despite only being 14 years old and having to move up a weight group.
