A COURAGEOUS Stourport boy who suffers from a rare form of cancer had his wish granted when he hopped on board his favourite television character for an unforgettable journey.

Damian Foster, who was diagnosed with Neuroblastoma seven months ago, was surprised when he came face to face with his hero, Thomas the Tank Engine.

The five-year-old was joined by his family on the memorable train voyage through the Oxfordshire countryside thanks to the Make A Wish Foundation.

He knew nothing of the treat until a luxurious stretch limousine pulled up outside the family's Hermitage Way home to transport them to Didcot railway station in style.

The Fat Controller was on the platform to greet them on their arrival before Thomas chugged down the track.

Claire Foster, Damian's mum, thanked the charity for organising the event and said her son would never forget the experience.

She explained: "He just adores Thomas the Tank Engine. He gets up every day to watch it on the television at 7am.

"If it is not on the television then he watches his videos. He never gets tired of them.

"He had absolutely no idea until he saw the car outside. It was great when we saw the look on his face. It just lit up."

The family had known about the extraordinary excursion for four weeks before the big day but did not tell Damian, who is looking forward to going back to Kidderminster's St Mary's CE First School later this month.

Jennie Mould, regional manager for the Make A Wish Foundation, said: "Damian had a simply wonderful day.

"Wishes like Damian's provide the whole family with special memories."

The charity has made more than 4,000 wishes come true for youngsters aged between three and 17, with life-limiting illnesses since it started in 1986.
