VISITORS can continue to enjoy walks around Hornhill Meadows and Nunnery Wood during the refurbishment of the Countryside Centre at Worcester Woods Country Park.

The children's play area will remain open, but the caf and public toilets will be closed from now until early April.

The new centre will become the showpiece of the park, incorporating environmentally friendly features such as an eco-building with a wood-fuel boiler and a turf roof.

There will be better information and interpretation boards, a bigger caf with more seating space, two large community rooms for hire and offices for Countryside Service staff.

Funds for the improvements have come from the office of the Deputy Prime Minister, Worcestershire County Council, the Environment Agency and the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Countryside green space manager Rachel Datlen said: "We hope the improvements will be a big benefit to our visitors."

The quartet of woods - Perry, Warndon, Tolladine, and Nunnery Wood, with the adjoining Hornhill Meadows - cover 52 hectares, and together make up the popular Worcester Woods Country Park.
