A GOAL in the last seconds of their game against North Stafford snatched a well-deserved point from Worcester Men's Firsts' grasp.

The Coaching Solutions League Midlands Division One game, which was long-serving captain Ian Ewers' last for the club, ended in a 5-4 thriller in favour of the visitors.

Worcester went into the game full of confidence after an excellent 5-1 victory against North Stafford in the first half of the season.

This confidence turned out to be mis-placed, though, as the visitors looked much the stronger side and opened up a rapid two-goal lead.

The hosts then pulled one back when Alex Kotlarsewski produced a pinpoint pass to Jon Sprague who calmly finished. However, Staffs scored again to make it 3-1 at half-time.

After a stern talking to during the break, Worcester regained their confidence and began to play with the style that has become a trademark for the club in recent times.

They managed to restore parity through a goal from Adam Gilbertson and a second from Sprague.

The final 10 minutes was a frantic affair, which saw Staffs regain the lead only for veteran Malcolm Evans to pop up in the right place at the right time to spoil the visitors' lead once again.

Worcester then pushed hard for the winner only for North Staffs to steal the points in the final seconds of the game.

On Sunday, a mentally and physically-drained Men's Firsts team entertained Sutton Coldfield in a re-arranged league game.

The excellent Sutton team looked much the better side and moved the ball around with pace and accuracy to claim a 3-0 lead at half-time.

The second-half saw Worcester put in more of a challenge when they got forward and they created a few short corners, but were unable to convert them. Sutton then stepped up a gear and took the attack to the home side, running out easy 8-0 victors.

The Seconds enjoyed a much better weekend than the Firsts as they were 6-2 winners at home to Kings Heath.

Worcester hit first on the break through Matt Walker, who then added a second shortly after from a drag flick. The hat-trick was completed when Walker rammed home a reverse-stick shot.

The second-half was slow and Kings Heath scored two scrappy goals.

The highlight, though, was Tim Johnson dribbling through the defence and lobbing the goalkeeper from the top of the 'D'.

The Thirds succumbed 10-1 at home to a very impressive Loughborough side.

Five goals in each half emphasised the students' dominance, but Worcester can take heart from the fact that the same effort applied in future games will result in far better outcomes.

A scrappy battle against Bridgnorth at home ended in a 1-0 victory for the Fourths.

Worcester's defence of Andy Howie and Kevin Maguire was rock solid and Clive Kendall played the holding role well.

After about 25 minutes Worcester won a short corner. A York Senior shot was saved by the 'keeper only for Simon Tinley to jab it in.

Harborne scored an early goal, but the Fifths were not deterred.

They came back with a great mid-air tap in from Stewart Vaughan. On a fast break Harborne caught Worcester off guard and made it 2-1, but Dave Richman equalised.

Harborne got the lead back early in the second-half, but then came a hair-raising strike from Ben Mullett which flew straight into the bottom corner to make it 3-3.

In the dying seconds, Owen Edwards won the game with a quality one-touch goal.

The Sixths dominated Warwick Fifths from the start and won 3-0.

Judd Doughty, Tinashe and Joe Drewett were all on target.

The Sevenths drew 4-4 at Kings Heath Pickwick.

Andrew Brady, Lionel Chambers, Andy Brady and Ian Powell scored.

The Worcester Badgers Pippins beat the Potters 2-1 in an inter-club game.

After a good move down the right the Potters took the lead through Josh White.

The Pippins, however, kept working hard and were rewarded with an equaliser from Nagushan Abimanue.

The game could have gone either way but it was the Pippins who sealed victory after a nice move was finished off by Jack Walker.

The Women's Seconds drew 1-1 at home to Harborne Seconds.

Ten minutes into the second-half Harborne took the lead from a penalty corner, but Worcester knuckled down and grabbed an equaliser through Becky Urch.

The Women's Fourths lost 9-1 at home to Kidderminster in a friendly.

Worcester put some good moves together down the right with Sarah Medcalf taking on the defence and Rachel Walker had a superb game in goal.

Two injuries struck down Worcester in the second-half and a few changes had to be made.

Kidderminster continued to dominate, but Marg Walford beat three players to score a superb consolation goal for the hosts.
