UPTON'S Memorial Hall could be used as a cinema in the future.

The town council is concerned that the hall needs more publicity as a function venue to balance the cost of upkeep against income.

The hall finance and general purposes committee met recently and agreed to explore the possibility of a cinema.

Chairman Simon Wilkinson said he thought both the town and the council would benefit from the hall being better used.

"It's a facility in the middle of the town and is certainly ideal for private parties," he said. "When you've got an 1832 building, then of course maintenance costs money."

Coun Wilkinson said the committee was still at a "brainstorming" stage concerning additional use of the hall.

However, he confirmed that the Malvern Arts Music Group would use the facility later in the year to screen the movie Amadeus.
