AN early visit to the beautiful garden at The Greyfriars in Worcester is on offer when it opens for a day in support of a range of charities.

The tranquil walled garden in the heart of the city is holding a National Gardens Scheme event on Saturday, February 4.

Each year the NGS provides financial support to a wide range of charitable institutions, including Macmillan Cancer Relief and Marie Curie Cancer Care and also gardeners' bursaries for the education and training of gardeners.

Admission to The Greyfriars garden will cost £1.50 and all entry money will go to the NGS. The Greyfriars garden is cared for by Caroline Beacall, who is taking part in the National Trust's Careership training scheme.

Caroline, who is in her second season at The Greyfriars, maintains the garden with support from a team of volunteers.

She said: "This is a great opportunity to see The Greyfriars garden before it opens to visitors in March.

"It's a lovely way to escape the hustle and bustle of the city centre."

The house and garden will be open from Wednesday March 1 from Wednesdays to Saturdays from 1-5pm.
