AN avid collector of road signs has uncovered a milestone he last saw 25 years ago.
Graham Stanton, from Kendal Close, Bromsgrove, has a collection of hundreds of road signs and transport memorabilia, but last Saturday he made a startling discovery. He revisited the A4096 Redditch to Tardebigge road in search of a sign bearing the text A448 Redditch 2, Bromsgrove 4.
Amazingly Graham, a member of the Worcestershire branch of the Milestone Society, found the landmark in a ditch, just yards from where he last saw the sign when driving past 25 years ago.
The sign, which was designed in the 1930s, is the last survivor of its type, and the Milestone Society is set to look at ways of refurbishing and repossessing it.
"I remember seeing the sign 25 years ago and thinking how nice it looked," Graham said.
"The Milestone Society asked if I could try and find it. Luckily I remembered within a number of yards where it was and it was hidden under some leaves."
