WITH reference to Mr Grahame Bennett's letter on disgusting litter last week, I would agree with him that you would not see this in western Europe, for instance, northern France is almost litter free.

I have the utmost sympathy with councils, as rapidly as litter is cleared it is back again.

Before the Second World War, and during the Fifties and Sxties litter problems did not arise - for in those years the British possessed 'pride'.

The litter problem will never be solved in this country for basically, we are a non-caring scruffy society.
