SALTWAY Rotary Club has just finished totting up the cash raised by the Christmas collections outside Waitrose and Morrisons stores in the weeks leading up to Christmas.

A magnificent £1,850 was raised and the club would like to thank the generous people of the town and also the two stores for their public spirited co-operation. Tony Griffin, vice-president of the club said that 2005 had been a record year for collections. The club had made an immediate response to the tsunami appeal and to the Pakistan earthquake appeal.

The Christmas collection would be distributed to local charities: St. Richard's Hospice, Acorns Hospice and local children's' charities.

The next big project is to be the annual joint effort with The Rotary Club of Droitwich Spa to publicise and organise 'Blood Pressure Awareness Day' in May. This is a country wide campaign by the Stroke Association. All townsfolk are given the chance to have their blood pressure tested, free on the spot, without the bother of having to make a surgery appointment. There will be more details closer to the day.
