Lansdowne 1, Bretforton Ladies 0

BRETFORTON made a promising start on a cold afternoon in Cheltenham with a number of good attacking moves down the right wing involving Deb Slatter and Lisa Workman.

The visitors were unlucky not to take the lead hen an excellent run and cross from Workman was picked up by Andrea Cole in the D but her deflected shot flashed just wide.

Slatter was also on target forcing the goalkeeper into another good save.

Lansdowne then forced the pace towards the end of the second half and a number of short corners were conceded but Bretforton's defence played well despite a change of players and positions.

The hosts were fortunate to take a second half lead from a short corner when goalkeeper Vicky Webb made the initial save only to see the rebound find the net.

The Vale side forced a couple of short corners in the later stages but they were unable to find an equaliser

Lesley MacKinnon was named player of the match, while the match ball was kindly sponsored by Sarah Hall.

A DELAYED start after indecision over a frosty pitch didn't curb the spirits of a resurgent Bretforton side.

Despite facing second in the table opponents, Bretforton dominated much of the match thanks to a fine all-round team performance.

Within five minutes the nimble Bernie Amphlett had set Shirley Aubrey up with the ball at halfway, before dribbling into the circle and blasting a shot goalwards where the keeper could only block and Kate Williams hit the loose ball into the goal.

It wasn't long before the lead was doubled when a short corner gave Marion Icke time to aim a superb strike at goal that Williams again picked up off the keeper's pads.

It was a similar story for the third that came towards the end of the second half when player of the match Williams completed her hat-trick.

Yate didn't give up the fight in the second half with their best chance coming from a short corner strike that bounced off a post.

The match ball was sponsored by Kiddy-winks of Chipping Campden

The next fixture is away to Hereford.
