A burglar claiming to be investigating a burst water pipe pushed his way into the home of an elderly couple in Bidford.

The man described as small with a bushy moustache and a soft Irish accent, called at a home in Victoria Road.

He told the couple a burst pipe was causing sewage waste to contaminate mains water.

He pushed his way into their home and then into the kitchen. A second man entered the house while the couple were distracted.

The elderly pair in their 80s became suspicious about the incident at 4.45pm last Tuesday and asked the man which company he worked for. He told them Severn Trent water company.

A second man was then seen coming down the stairs and both men left.

The house had been searched but nothing was believed to have been taken.

Warwickshire police are looking for two offenders. The first is described as white, of small build, with dark collar length hair and a bushy moustache. He was aged in his mid 30s.

He wore blue jeans and a fawn sweater with a logo on the chest.

The man seen coming down the stairs was also white with a larger build. He was aged about 40 with a ruddy complexion, clean shaven and wearing a blue top and jeans.

The men were seen walking off towards the Evesham Road. No vehicle was seen.

Detectives from Alcester CID are investigating and appealing for witnesses.
