AWARDS have been given to three Bewdley residents for their contribution to music and events in the town.

Tony Barton, of Woodthorpe Drive, received an award for more than 20 years commitment as bandmaster of the Bewdley Scout and Guide Band at the ceremony held at the Guildhall last week.

It performs at many ceremonies in Bewdley, including the Remembrance Day parade.

Mr Barton said it was "a real honour" to have been nominated and added that he was "chuffed to bits" with the recognition.

He added: " I have been doing the Scout and Guide Band for more than 20 years and it is extremely satisfying. Sometimes, it is extremely frustrating but I love it very much."

Jenny Paddock, of Gardeners Meadow, was recognised for seven years work as the director of Bewdley Festival.

Mrs Paddock, who chairs the committee that selects and books individual performers for the annual event, said: "I am very proud and honoured. It is lovely to get an award but I am part of a big team. Everybody works very hard throughout the year on the festival."

Doris Burrows was recognised for 40 years of service on the Bewdley Carnival committee and said she was "very proud" to have received her prize.

She was born in Bewdley, where she has lived all her life, and was a founder member of the committee.

At the ceremony, Bewdley Town Councillor, Anne Mace said: "40 years is a long time to stick to the carnival. She has been on the committee for the ups and the downs and has been involved in fund-raising."
