VOLUNTEERS are hoping to secure grant money to help turn plans for a youth caf in Bewdley into reality.
Bewdley Town Councillor, Nigel Knowles, who sits on the Youth Caf Committee, has applied to several organisations for funding and is currently in the process of applying for a grant from the Awards for All scheme.
He has applied to the Eveson Trust, whicvh is based in Gloucester and gives money to organisations in this area, but his application was unsuccessful.
Councillor Knowles, who also sits on Worcestershire County Council, has asked for funding from the Kidderminster and District Youth Trust and his application will be heard at a meeting on Monday, February 13.
The project, which was awarded charity status in November, is modelled on a similar caf in Tenbury Wells and will act as a base to enable young people to organise activities as well as providing a computer suite and health and welfare services.
Councillor Knowles said they were still on the look-out for suitable premises, adding: "I think we are looking for a shop that is in Load Street. We have had promises from several organisations that, if we get premises, they will give us some money but we need to get some grants to pay for the rent first."
The committee has £2,250 in the bank but he believes around £9,000 would be needed for a year's rent, as well as additional funds.
Anyone interested in getting involved can contact Nigel Knowles on 01299 402343.
