DIVERS could be sent into the River Severn to retrieve parts of Bewdley Bridge's north wall following a collision last week.
A red Volvo 740 collided with the bridge, which runs into Load Street, at around midnight on Thursday and a stretch of the parapet wall was knocked into the river.
The area has been sealed off and the footpath of the bridge, which dates backs to 1798, has been temporarily closed but traffic has not been affected.
Richard Attwood, of Worcestershire County Council, said: "We have been arranging to get divers in to get the material out of the river. I am not sure when it will be yet."
Lynne Masters, spokeswoman for West Mercia Constabulary, said a man had been arrested following the incident.
