BEWDLEY Town Council members have unanimously agreed a contribution of £5,000 toward a CCTV scheme for the town.

The funding, which will be included in the budget for 2006-07 and is towards capital costs, is in addition to a commitment from Wyre Forest District Council to provide funding of £180,000 for CCTV across Bewdley and Stourport.

It follows a scheme introduced last year in Kidderminster, jointly funded by Wyre Forest District Council, Kidderminster Town Centre Partnership and West Mercia Constabulary.

Bewdley Mayor, Councillor Liz Davies, said: "What we have agreed is that £5,000 will be funded from our resources to ensure that Bewdley does not suffer in the priorities in the Wyre Forest.

"We have done what we have been asked to and we expect the Shaw Hedge Road Skate Park to be included in that," she added.

Leader of Wyre Forest District Council, Stephen Clee, said consultants were looking where there were "crime hotspots" in the town to determine the best places to put cameras.
