AT the annual meeting, the following officers were elected: president Derek Walker, chairman Michael Ecob, hon sec Helen Rendle, hon treasurer Rita Browning, show secretary Robin Saunders, social secretary Pam Johnstone, press officer Joan Appleton; committee Nina Saunders, Mr and Mrs I McRea, Eric Walker, Vic Powell, John Jackson, David Ward, Lynn Hughes, Christine Parker.
There will again be three flower and vegetable shows this year, three summer outings, including a visit to Kew Gardens, a four-day visit to Northumberland in July and a summertime "big band ball".
The harvest supper will be held on the last Saturday of October.
Evening meetings at Astley village hall, 7.30pm for 8pm speaker, are held the third Wednesday of each month. March's charity meeting will feature a talk on "sustainable organic gardening and agriculture in Africa".
On February 15 Derek Walker will talk about propagation from windowsill sowing to international production of plants, with slides on Dutch and Kenyan methods.
