A FUND-raising event is being organised in aid of an emergency service charity which helped in the battle to save the life of an 18-year-old man who died after falling from the top floor of a Kidderminster car park.

Town resident, Sue Turrall, was so moved by the incident and the hard work of the County Air Ambulance, which flew the victim, Luke Willetts, to hospital, that she has decided to organise a dance to raise funds for the emergency service.

The event, set to be held at The Chainwire Club in Oldington Lane, Kidderminster, will include 60s bands, The Crestas, the Wayne and Andre Experience and DJ Martin Stooke, on Friday, March 17.

The proceeds will be presented to the County Air Ambulance, which flew the teenager to hospital, after he fell 60ft from the Swan Centre car park, in Blackwell Street on Friday, January 20.

Mrs Turrall, of Emery Court, said many local businesses had offered prizes for the auction, which will be held during the event.

She added: "I've had a great deal of support so far. Lots of people feel very strongly about this and are disgusted the County Air Ambulance is a charity-funded service and not funded by the Government.

"I'd like to thank Brintons Carpets who are loaning us the room for free. We're hoping to raise around £1,200 on the night and without their help we would not be able to hold the dance. "

The event is being held following the death of student, Mr Willetts, of Betjeman Court, who was in town with his grandmother on the day of the incident.

He was taken to Selly Oak Hospital, Birmingham by air ambulance but died later that day, due to multiple injuries.

Mrs Turrall's daughter, Kelli, who witnessed the incident from outside florist, Frocks and Flowers, in Blackwell Street, is also supporting the charity event.

She said: "It's an excellent idea and such a good thing to do for an emergency service which is solely funded by voluntary contributions.

"No-one ever knows if they might need the assistance of the County Air Ambulance one day.

"It's a tragedy what has happened but I think it has helped raise awareness of this wonderful service. It was amazing how they managed to land in such a narrow space and they seemed to arrive within minutes."

Tickets for the event must be bought in advance. For more details, call Sue Turrall on 01562 69302 or Brian Glass at Mr Cleancalls in High Street, Stourport, on 01299 827356.
