I feel I have to add my support to Roger Moss (Your Letters, January 27) and his appeal for some peace and quiet in Malvern at night.

I have lived in Great Malvern for about five years now, having decided that 20 years in London was enough. My last place in London involved sleeping within 10 metres of a major A-road, and I have to say that I got more restful sleep there than I do living on the Worcester Road in Great Malvern.

Friday and Saturday night generally consist of shouting, screaming, abuse, bottles smashing, car doors slamming and a general lack of respect for property in the area. I would also like to say that people using the cashpoints really don't have to let me know what music they are listening to! I am already half-deaf from too many years playing in Heavy Metal bands and although I like my music very loud, have no desire to inflict it on anybody else.

Considering the fact I am already half- deaf (Ask my partner, "pardon?" is the most commonly used phrase in our house), and that some of my places of residence in London were not what you would call 'highly desirable', I am amazed that I am even motivated enough to pick up a keyboard and type, very slowly, a letter to you.

I would like to personally invite all of these inconsiderate, gobby, foul-mouthed people to come and babysit my two-year-old son for a day after a disturbed, restless night.

It's ok, he doesn't like Heavy Metal and is a very happy, polite, well-adjusted child, normally. Sometimes I have to make sure I'm feeding the right child breakfast in the morning, and I haven't wandered into another flat by mistake. Then I remember that we were kept up by some drunkards taking advantage of the late licensing laws.

Let me qualify this by saying that I love Malvern. I love living on the hills and it was the best move I could have made. It's a special place. I just never expected to have to park my car half a mile away because the council can't be bothered to sort out the parking and that I would turn from a hairy Metal fan into Victor Meldrew because the council and licensees don't give a stuff about the people who live here.

One of the most impressive things I see all the time is senior citizens marching up Church Street and the hills as if they were horizontal and you want to stick a train up it! I've got it pretty good here, but a lot of people haven't. Try helping them out before you think about tourists and your pockets. Who's running this place? Oh, I could go on, but I won't. OK, I feel better now, thanks.
