CHRISTINE Grant will never forget the day she served up a treat for the Fab Four.

The Beatles, then an up-and-coming rock and roll act, were playing at the Gaumont Cinema as part of a tour with Roy Orbison, another performer who became a pop music legend.

On the day of the Beatles gig, Christine and a pal were hanging about outside the cinema, curious about who was inside.

She said: "Suddenly a window opened on the first floor and a head popped out - it was a Beatle.

"I can't remember which of them we talked to first, I think it was Paul.

"We chatted for a while and then another one and then another one came out and chatted."

When the stars asked where they could get some food, the girls jumped at the chance to help.

Mrs Grant, aged 56, of Norton, Worcester, said: "My friend lived a matter of minutes from the Gaumont and said we could go back to her house and bring them something," she said. The girls buttered up some bread, boiled some eggs and took the feast to John, Paul, George and Ringo.

"They were very appreciative and took them in," she said.

"We didn't see them eat them, but would like to think they did."

Mrs Grant said that at the time, the band were not as famous as they were to become.

"They were very down-to-earth and we were quite proud that we had done them a good turn," she said. In hindsight, she said, the whole experience seemed quite surreal. "Now, I look back and think, did that really happen or have I imagined it?"
