KEMP Hospice has hit the jackpot this week - and every week - after it teamed up with a Premiership football club's lottery.

The charity receives 45 per cent of the money given out to good causes from Wolverhampton Wanderers' Goalden Gate Weekly Draw - and Kemp has already raked in more than £2,000 since the partnership started two months ago.

Hospice manager Michael Rowan predicted the lottery would bring in £300 a week "ad infinitum".

The cash will not go directly to the building appeal but will help meet the increased running costs of the new Mason Road hospice - where an enlarged day care centre is due to open later this year - and Mr Rowan said he was "very happy" with the news.

"It provides a good regular base income and the fact that they're now a Premiership club as well means we're lucky to have this partnership," he said.

Mr Rowan added staff had been "exploring the possibility of having a lottery to support the hospice" for a year and the Wolves scheme offered the best deal.

The lottery's promotion manager Cliff Egan said it was set up two-and-a-half years ago to raise money for sports clubs, charities and other good causes such as hospitals.

"The football club takes a lot out of the community and the lottery is a way of putting something back in," he said.

The lottery has already handed almost £20,000 to the city's New Cross Hospital and Mr Egan added: "We'd like to have the same sort of relationship with Kemp Hospice."

Some 9,500 people play every week and there have been several £1,000 jackpot winners from Kidderminster in the last month. For further information contact the promotions office on 01902 658666.
