Droitwich Spa 3 Chelmsley Town 0

DROITWICH made a huge stride towards safety in the Midland Combination Division Two by beating fellow strugglers Chemsley at home on Saturday.

Victory means that Droitwich have moved into the relative security of a mid-table position in the table.

Manager Tom Goss though admits he's been more focused on performances rather than results.

He said: "If we play the right way then the league will look after itself.

"Beating Chelmsley is a big win and it puts us in a very strong opinion.

"The players were tremendous all season. They have been playing really well all season."

Stuart James opened the scoring, before Matt Jenkins added a second before half time.

Andy Jenkins had to be taken off early in the second half with a gash on his head.

But the injury hardly disrupted Droitwich as Matt Jenkins bagged his second goal of the day.

Goss also handed 15-year-old Craig Brown his debut in match's dying moments.

l Droitwich could be missing several key players for Saturday, February 11's home game against title chasing Earlswood (2.45pm kick off).

Mark Burrows, Steve Harper and Jenkins could all miss the match because of injuries.

Goss said: "Earlswood have been a bit of a bogey side for us, but we can beat them if we keep playing like we have done all season."
