Celebrities are coming to Worcester to go head to head in a charity football match.

Stars of the soaps Hollyoaks and Coronation Street are expected to draw thousands of frenzied fans to Worcester City Football Club on Sunday, April 9.

Although the complete line-up cannot be confirmed because of filming commitments, Nick Pickard, alias Tony Hutchinson of Holly-oaks, will be playing.

The boys from Chester could regain face after they were beaten 4-3 in a match against Emmerdale in 2004. Proceeds from the game will go to Leukaemia CARE.

The national charity, based in Worcester, is looking for local organisations to sponsor the sporting event. Businesses can choose to back individual players and bag themselves free tickets.

Louise Carlin, Leukaemia CARE fund-raising manager, is hoping to fill all 5,000 seats at St George's Lane.

She said: "It's going to be great. One lucky fan will get the VIP treatment and go out with both teams who will be staying in Worcester on Saturday night.

"You have to buy a ticket in advance and listen to Wyvern FM as the station will have all the competition details and then announce the winner. There will also be a contest for under-18s to be team mascots. We're hoping to fill the stadium and any business who has ideas and wants to join in on the day are invited to get in touch for details."

She added that the celebrity football match would be the biggest event in Worcester's social calendar this year.

Leukaemia CARE provides care and support to patients, their families and carers from the diagnosis to the final treatment of Leukaemia and other blood related disorders.
