THREE Bromsgrove men are looking to shed some pounds as part of a mammoth fundraiser for an orphanage in Kenya.

Roy Miles, from Sidemoor, discovered the Furaha Children's Home in Mombasa while on holiday there in 2002. Now he plans to return in July with members of Bromsgrove Baptist Church. They will be taking money to provide much-needed new facilities.

As part of fundraising efforts, Roy is teaming up with friends Colin Pearson and John Davis for a sponsored diet. The trio will each attempt to lose three stone before the end of June.

"We have been very busy over the last few months planning for the trip and now we have started to fundraise for the orphanage itself," said Roy.

"Colin and I are neighbours and when he heard of the project he suggested we should go on a sponsored diet."

It is hoped that bathing and water storage facilities, chicken coups and bedding can be provided and a computer centre is also on the wish list.

A host of other fundraising events have been organised for the coming months.
