SIR - I have always had an interest in how my council tax is being spent, so I have recently started attending Worcester City Council meetings.
I am often the only member of the public to attend. This is a shame as it can prove an enlightening and entertaining experience.
You can see elected representatives in action, and see the way they behave and vote. I was particularly surprised at the lack of apparent independence in the way that Independent councillors cast their votes, with a block vote for Conservative policy and an occasional abstention. Watching them has made me ask myself if the description of Independent is accurate - and of what?
