THANKS to the Advertiser for publishing the latest threat to our post offices. We have to rely on the media when the Government of the day is so underhand.
Some people have expressed concern that if they refuse to give their bank details and insist on payment through the post office, they may lose their pension.
The Government is required by law to pay their pension and cannot withold it. In fact, some people were unable or unwilling to accept card accounts or payment into bank, so they have a giro cheque each week.
It should also be borne in mind that if the Government persuades everyone to have their money paid into a bank, while at the moment it can be accessed through a post office, once the post offices have gone, then there will be no alternative to going into town and queuing at cash machines.
Once post offices have closed, they never re-open, so the time for everyone, old and new pensioners, is to act NOW.
