SIMON Pennington-Marshall, deputy general manager at Morrisons in Bromsgrove, was chosen by staff to represent the store in a company-wide donation that saw the total raised for its Breast Cancer Campaign reach the £1m mark.Every penny counts:Simon Pennington-Marshall makes the donation.

Morrisons reckoned that staff and customers had raised just under £1m. But it did not bank any further donations once a total of £999,625 was reached.

Then, at noon, a representative from every Morrisons store across the country simultaneously deposited £1 into a collection bucket resulting in all 375 stores playing their part in hitting the incredible £1m total.

Simon was nominated after taking part in a 10km sponsored walk across the Cotswolds, for which he raised more than £360 for the Breast Cancer Campaign (BCC).

Simon Woolley, store general manager, said: "It is fantastic that Simon was nominated as the person to be involved in this ceremony to mark the raising of £1m for our charity.

"It represents the biggest charity total ever achieved in the history of the company's charitable donations.

"We are all very proud that we have reached this milestone and I would like to personally thank all my staff and customers who have taken part in fundraising activities and donated their money to such a worthy cause," he added.
