Kings Norton 27, Bournville 0

Coach Ian Jackson came up with a winning combination of youth and experience as Kings Norton eased into the next round of the competition.

The visitors competed strongly throughout but had little to threaten Kings other than their impressive and powerful Kiwi no 8.

Just four fit regular first team players in addition to recent signing Van de Walt were part of the side to book a quarter-final place while club captain Steve Farrell returned to first team duty along with John and Martin Hefford.

The opening score came on 19 minutes, Richard Gibbs capitalising on some slick passing to go over for the try.

Kings maintained their dominance throughout the half but scoring chances were limited by Bournville's strong spoiling defence.

Just before the break, a splendid cross-field kick from John Hefford found Gibb, who fed to Martin Hefford to score.

The second half was an end-to-end affair but solid defending frustarted the visitors.

Kings increased their lead when young scrum-half Tim Hodson fed quick ball to Pete May who evaded two tackles and made space before releasing to John Hefford who handed off three defenders before crashing through.

Gibb darted in at the corner for his second try as the home side increased their lead.

But Kings were not finished yet. A John Hefford kick to corner from a penalty resulted in a catch and drive from the Norton forwards and a jubillant Richard Revell claimed the final score, Pete May kicking the extr points.

Meanwhile, a number of local schoolchildren will converge on Ash Lane at the end of the month for a rugby masterclass with members of Premiership side Worcester Warriors.

The session, on March 29, will start at 7.30pm.
