Leamington men's 1st XI 1 Bromsgrove men's 1st XI 3

BROMSGROVE weathered a spirited second half fight back to keep their slight chances of promotion from the Coaching Solutions West Midlands Division One alive on Saturday.

The Boars had streaked into a 3-1 lead but had to withstand heavy pressure to hold onto a precious victory.

The win also keeps fourth placed Bromsgrove hot on the heels of West Bromwich and Old Wulfrunians, who are third and second in the table respectively.

Captain Julian Court said: "Leamington are as good a side as we have played all season.

"They really came at us in the second half and we had to work very hard to make sure we won.

"It's a great result because we're right behind Old Wulfs and West Brom and keeping the pressure on until the end."

Bromsgrove made the perfect start when top scorer Pete Hall scored twice to make his tally for the season so far 24 goals.

Leamington pulled a goal back but Bromsgrove responded by re-instating a two-goal lead thanks to a fine strike by Nick Frizzell. In the second half Bromsgrove were forced to work hard to keep Leamington at bay.

The win means that with two games of the season left Bromsgrove still have a chance of finishing second.

However, the Boars will have to rely on West Bromwich and Old Wulfrunians slipping up.

Third placed West Bromwich are in the driving seat with a game in hand and a point advantage over Bromsgrove.

Bromsgrove's Black Country rivals play Old Wulfrunians on Saturday, March 18 and Market Drayton on Sunday, before ending the season at Leamington on March 25.

After Old Wulfs' testing game at West Brom they end the season by playing already crowned champions Whitchurch.

Court said: "It's out of our hands I'm afraid. We can only hope we win our matches and Old Wulfs and West Brom make mistakes."

Bromsgrove play Redditch away on Saturday hoping for some revenge.

The Boars were denied victory by their derby rivals when Redditch scored a late leveller in January.

Top scorer Pete Hall and Matt Russell are both set to miss the match because of family commitments.

Court said: "Redditch got a late equaliser. Those two points could have been crucial so we'd like some revenge."
