A KIDDERMINSTER woman was "over the moon" when her pet pooch scooped top honours in two events at the world's top dog show.

Dawn Wood, a member of Kidderminster Agility Club, entered Crufts at the NEC with her Shetland sheepdog, Fudge, and won not only the pairs competition but also the circular knockout agility competition for mini dogs on Sunday.

It was the first time Fudge had won the circular knockout event, which involves a series of jumps and agility obstacles.

It was the second year in a row, however, the duo won the pairs competition at Crufts. On this occasion, it was with fellow Kidderminster Agility Club member, Susie Josty.

The Spennells resident attributed her success to the good trainer-dog relationship she has developed with Fudge over the past four years he has been competing at Crufts.

Mrs Wood, who is also the agility club's secretary, said: "I didn't expect to win the circular knockout as there were international champions competing and this is not usually Fudge's sort of event. I guessed this probably made me feel a little more relaxed. Fudge just seems to be getting better and better."

Kidderminster Agility Club also had success in the young kennel club - YKC - competition with Holly Davies and her Labrador Jack Russell cross, Penny Black, gaining an overall third in the agility dog of the year section and being placed third in the mini challenge.

Two of Kidderminster's flyball dogs, Chelsea and Jodie, run by Kidderminster couple Karen and Stuart Milton, also won two rounds to reach the televised flyball final.

Jenny Borriello, chairman of Kidderminster Agility Club, said: "We are only a small club so to have four members reaching the finals of Crufts is an achievement in itself.

"Dawn, our secretary and one of our trainers, gives lots of help to other members at our training nights and we are proud of her."
