BEWDLEY are the early pacesetters in the 2006 Wyre Forest District Parish Games after winning the bridge event when the tournament got under way last week.
They got off to a perfect start in the seven-parish contest, beating second-placed Churchill and Blakedown and third-placed Stourport to win the card game.
Wolverley and Cookley were fourth in the bridge event with Rock fifth, Upper Arley sixth and Stone unable to raise a team.
Over the next two months the parishes will compete in a host of events including dominoes which took place at The Harbour Inn in Upper Areley this week.
They will also pit their wits in crib, short mat bowls, rounders, archery, golf and general knowledge tournaments to win the title of Parish Champions.
The overall winners will receive a trophy to keep, a shield and a cheque for £100, while indivdual event winners also get a trophy to keep.
Entry to the Parish Games is free. For more details contact Amy Smith at Wyre Forest District Council on 01562 732928.
