CAMPAIGNERS against a notorious Kidderminster building have decided to adopt different tactics after becoming exasperated with their failure to get it demolished.
Members of The Campaign Against The Crown House - CATCH - now plan to push for improvements after admitting "they were not getting anywhere" in their quest for the removal of the eyesore from the town centre landscape.
The building featured on the Channel Four show Demolition last year after hundreds of Wyre Forest residents put it forward to the programme makers.
Viewers eventually voted Crown House, which has previously topped a poll of the Midlands' worst buildings, the dubious honour of being the fourth ugliest structure from the list of 12 nominees nationwide.
Margaret Bradley, secretary of CATCH, formed in 2000, said the group would like to work together with leaseholders, Land Securities Trillium, to spruce up the exterior.
She added: "We have spent six years trying to get the building knocked down but, despite all our efforts, we just did not seem to be getting anywhere.
"We are certainly not giving up trying to make it better. We believe there are a lot of things that could be done to make it more attractive. The one thing we definitely do not want is for it to be repainted because, in 15 years, it will peel away and need to be replaced again."
Mrs Bradley added architects from the Demolition programme came up with a variety of refurbishment ideas, including using plastic to cover the existing panels.
Wyre Forest District Council owns the freehold on the eight-storey structure, which houses the post office and civil service staff.
